Yahoo News, CNN and others are running the reporter revolt at the Washington Post where the publisher attempted to squash a story about him.

SO not the right word.

Probably the original reporter was thinking the legal term "quash", which at least describes a similar action, but the editor should have caught it so the headline writer wouldn't have used it.

Of course, the RIGHT word to use, given that the Post still has a newspaper background, is "spike". You SPIKE a story.

I know, that's so twentieth century of me.

Squash is just a game for toffs.
