Yahoo News, CNN and others are running the reporter revolt at the Washington Post where the publisher attempted to squash a story about him.

    SO not the right word.

Probably the original reporter was thinking the legal term "quash", which at least describes a similar action, but the editor should have caught it so the headline writer wouldn't have used it.

Of course, the RIGHT word to use, given that the Post still has a newspaper background, is "spike". You SPIKE a story.

I know, that's so twentieth century of me.

Squash is just a game for toffs.

Shouldn't that be the,"Correct",word to use.

Some people attack the Post for being a left wing paper.

second definition to squash is "to put an end to by force : SUPPRESS, SQUELCH". This seems to fit from a definitional perspective.... just sayin'

On the topic of words, one of the craziest words I've come across recently is lawfair. I hear it on some media channels, law fair this law fair that. Of course the law is fair, no one is above it, but somehow some folks don't think that law is fair.

It's like ordering a drink with just ice.

You can spike squash too, but spiking watermelon is better.
