Do you prefer to research and plan out an exact itinerary or be spontaneous?

      bit of both
      *LOL*
in my case it usually turns into spontaneous cause I can't follow a plan!!

      case in point...
we leave tomorrow for our yearly trip to mountains.....I've known for months we leave tomorrow.
ask me if the suitcases are packed.
ask me if the cooler is anywhere near ready.
hell ask me if anything is ready?

the answer to all is nope....have started a little of everything....but the only things i finished was the grocery shopping....and picking up sis's oxygen tanks.

but... we're not leaving till noon.....so....it's all good!

Yes, I agree with all of you LOL. It depends on so many other factors.
When I fly and will have some free time, I usually do some research and find several options.
...really can't remember any trip with an exact itinerary...

depends on how complex the trip is. When we do driving trips we just take off. On our trip to Tasmania we got on the ferry with the car, off at the other end and just drove. Over the two weeks we only had two pre-made hotel bookings, the rest we just took pot luck that there were going to be vacancies. For cruises we fly up at least the day before. International is much more complex, and generally I book everything ahead of time.

Depends on the destination, mode of travel, and the time I have to available to wander aimlessly. Both approaches have resulted in fabulous experiences for me.

We research, you never know where roads are closed along the way. Having a GPS is also helpful on long travel days. But we always stop if we see something worth a gander.
