First off, thank you veronica{Withheld} for the birthday room, what a lovely gesture, and expertly done! And to all the dear friends at SOI, geez, it is touching, being part of a community, rooting for each other.

We have a hawk that hunts the garden, seen it the last few nights at dusk; the mockingbirds don't like it, the hawk seems indifferent.

The cleome are outrageous, nice to hear bees buzzing in them in the morning, and what a perfect plant for a birthday; burlesque fans for petals, and thorns on the stem; getting paddled on my birthday, and remember, Lincoln counted in scores during the Gettysburg Address, so just a little over three score!

Otis on patrol, been a little dry, the forty yard flower bed could use some rain. Been watering the tomatoes; they are beginning to produce.

This goldfinch seems a little angry; like his bum has been spanked, while trying to eat sunflower seeds. I tried to explain to it about Aristotle's twin spurs, "pleasure and pain", and he simply flew away, flapping his wings just enough to stay airborne, dang lazy bird.
