I crossed the I-480 bridge from Nebraska into Iowa and my hometown, for a Memorial Day Service at the cemetery. I got there early so I could have a quiet visit with my parents and grandparents (paternal) before the service. The service itself was quite nice, moving, as memorial services usually are.

By the time the service ended it was nearly lunch time and I was hungry. (I'd skipped breakfast) so went to a burger/ice cream place. It's a 3rd generation family-owned business, opened before I was even born. It was a tiny building, with the menu posted on big signboards on the outside. Between them, two little walk-up windows where you'd place and pick up your order. I don't remember the year, but they eventually remodeled/expanded the building so you can order inside and added 5 or 6 booths as well. The walk-up windows still do a big business with people placing orders to go, eating in their cars or the few umbrella covered tables outside.

When I was a kid and my dad would say "Who wants ice cream?" There'd be a chorus of "I do! I do!" and we'd jump in the car and go get vanilla, chocolate or twist cones. Maybe a sundae, or a shake, a malt, a float. Best of treats on a hot summer night.

    A happy childhood memory.

So today's lunch was a burger, fries and a Pepsi. (That's the only thing I don't like. Coke is sooo much better! *s*) Their french fries are crinkle cut. Now I know a lot of places serve crinkle cut fries. But the ones at this place are THE BEST! I honestly can't tell you what makes them better, I just know that they are! :-)

Finished with my lunch I was pleasantly full and ready to head home. All of a sudden, this little voice spoke to me. It said:

    "Chocolate malt"

I didn't need a chocolate malt, or any other ice cream. But I love chocolate malts, and it'd been years since I'd had one.

So I listened to that little voice and ordered a small chocolate malt to go. And I enjoyed every bit of it!!! 😋

Now I really am full. Though it's just a little past 3pm, I'm seriously think of skipping dinner tonight.

Hope everyone's having a good holiday, while remembering all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for us all.
