Now that I'm retired I'm cooking a lot more and I need a "push" to get out of my same-old, same-old. Gioia has gotten me to try a few recipes', and while I'm no whiz in the kitchen, I can always try something new.

I'm thinking, we rotate around and come up with something to make each month. Here's the little twist I have in mind. You TELL us what to make...

"Lemon - Turmeric Chicken" ... but don't give the actual recipe. Then it's up to us to either come up with our own, or find something online and do that. Each "challenge" runs for a month, you cook whatever it is, whenever is convenient for you, then take some photos and report back on the cork. After a month, the next person puts up the next challenge. You can pick anything but I'd suggest not picking something that requires a bunch of hard-to-find or really expensive ingredients.

It's nearing the end of June so let's go to the end of July for this one.

I've been wanting to make Scottish Oat Cakes for, like, forever, so that's what I challenge you all to try.

Everywhere you go in Scotland at any large market, you can find cellophone-wrapped oat cakes, particularly the brand named "Stockans".

Stockans makes "thin" oatcakes..."Orkney" style oatcakes, which are thicker..."cheesy" oatcakes, and I believe, "nutty" oatcakes. However, they're not the only brand. In some more out-of-the-way places, in little stores you can buy the local variety of oatcake, whatever the little bakery in town makes, or whatever the cottage-industry lads/lasses in the region churn out.

So what's YOUR version of oatcakes? Who's "in"?

In August we'll try something else, maybe I can talk Gioia into coming up with a challenge and if this takes off, we can swap off every month.

I'll pass on this one,not being particularly an oats fan,but I'll follow it with interest.

To something you said,I found that tumeric works well with fried eggs, black pepper, and bacon or country ham grease.

I would love to be part of this!

And yet, without air conditioning, I don't see myself firing up the oven much in July.

Sounds interesting ...although I will admit, Oatcakes isn't something I would even try ...so readily available in several bakeries and inexpensive around here (southern Ontario, Canada).
