What movie or book has inspired you to travel somewhere?
The Godfather 1 & 2 prompted me to check out Sicily. We enjoyed cappuccino and canolis at Bar Vitelli. IYKYK
While it didn't inspire me to visit Savanna, Georgia; "Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil" made the city seem more recognizable. I got to visit many of the locations mentioned in the book.
For me, it is the travel that inpires me to read every book I can get on the geography, biome, history and culture of the place.
Not sure I can single out a place.
not me, but my husband. He read Jack London books when he was a young teen, and forever seeks out snow and wilderness. We don't have snow in our cities, so he heads up to the Australian mountains for a few weeks every winter to get his fix. One year we travelled to New York and he attempted some of the Adirondak peaks, but sadly the borrowed equipment he had was not suitable.
I know a movie helped me desire for a certain profession, but not a place to go.EXEMPLAR, where there is a diamond, there is a slice of heaven.
the other side of the mountain , when i was 8
Blue Highways...a non-fiction book about a guy just traveling around America on the "blue" highways on the maps...aka, the less travelled ones...state and local roads, rather than Interstates...(these days, i wonder if that has any meaning)...i'm not one for living in my vehicle...even if it were a camper...but the little places and people he meets are very cool...
Monterey County, CA and Salinas Valley. Steinbeck country. And on the "to do" list: Field of Dreams in Iowa. (Which for those of you who know the movie, is not heaven.)
I haven't been to the city of Cork, in Ireland, and the little town of Carrigaline, just south of Cork yet, but the book "Blue Water, Green Skipper" has made me want to go there!
