What's the coolest thing you've ever seen from the window of an airplane?
I'll second Greenland. Amazing ice. Breathtaking. Indescribable.
Greenland
SFO to SEA, went over Mount Saint Helens. Also agree with previous comments on lightning and storms from above.
Flying home to Australia, peering out the window into the inky blackness, I noticed that the Southern Cross appeared to be perched on the wingtip. The next coolest thing is coming in to land at Sydney, and you get a fabulous glimpse of Sydney Harbour and the Opera House.
Two have been mentioned already. I’ve watched lightning run across the clouds beneath me. It’s beautiful and astounding. Also there is nothing like coming home to NY. One time as we approached LaGuardia over Brooklyn, there were fireworks beneath us. Spectacular.
Storm related ...flying into Boston with a big Rain storm with lightening ...we were told to circle and wait while they landed planes ahead of us ... looking out the window, it was surreal to see several other planes as if we were on an enormous merry-go-round ride.
Sunsets. I’ve been lucky enough to see more than one, and they’re fantastic.
The NYC skyline is awesome. But one thing that sticks with me is the time I flew to the Bahamas. I looked out the plane window and saw water that was the most gorgeous, spectacular shade of blue I've ever seen.
Oh gosh, so many. Hard to beat the skyline of NYC coming in to LaGuardia or DC into Reagan National. The lights of Las Vegas flying over on the way to to LAX.My favorite, by far, the lights of Hong Kong when arriving at night. Freaking spectacular.
The Grand Canyon , then saw it for real a few years later up close .....
I'd have to agree with timbre, the storms.
The Grand Canyon
the ground..lol i was maybe 6 or 7..a friend took us up in his personal small plane first time in the air..houses..vehicles..trees..everything looked so tiny..at 7.. i was amazed..lol
Storms . Love watching lightning from aboveOr once saw a huge long flat stony flat area over New mexico that appeared to be pure red green brown jasper.
That was pretty
