This may look like a rather ordinary picture of an ordinary blossom. But this has been long awaited on a rather precious tree.

This is a Yuzu blossom, one of 17 right now, on a 3 year old potted tree that I take indoors during the winter. Yuzu, you might ask, is a Japanese citrus used in cooking among other things. It is an essential ingredient in Ponzu sauce. I use it in a Nikkei cuisine ceviche which gets rave reviews from my guests.

You can't get fresh Yuzu in the U.S., unless you grow it yourself. Yuzu juice from Japan is rather expensive. So I've been waiting 3 years to finally see my little tree produce blossoms, which by early winter will have matured fruit.

I'm sure you can't share my excitement, but anyone who is a foodie and loves to cook will appreciate having authentic ingredients at ones fingertips

If it has an aroma, it’s eluding me. Which is odd since the fruit is said to be quite aromatic. Of course I’ve never handled a Yuzu fruit, only its juice

I did a bit of a double take on that flower and the picture. I went to a 3/4 shot and sure enough that's a tube.

      Great flower thanks.

      Yuzu is a prize!
I am stoked that a few nurseries are now producing trees in the US. It opens the door to domestic fruit production which will be AMAZING!

You, my friend will be the envie of your local foodi scene!
      I'm so happy for you!

Have you smelled the blossom? ooooh...heady, yes?

Does the flower have an aroma? Does it attract western insects?
