My sweet Milo (the black boy here) has been so very sick. He has been to the Vet ER, to his Vet last week, again today and again tomorrow. He is 100% inside kitty and isn't even 2 years old yet. I have been a literal basket case with worry.Today we finally got a diagnosis. First they had to do a very comprehensive blood panel to check every known virus and bacteria that a cat can have. Very expensive but who cares?! Had to know why he was so sick. Not eating, not drinking and in the process of developing a "fatty liver' which can be fatal. The Vet ER gave him IV fluids and a routine antibiotic and said to get him to our vet as soon as possible. They said he had an "infection" of unknown origin and a very high fever.
He did fine after we got home (at 2:30 a.m.) and ate like a mountain lion with a fresh kill. I thought he was okay.
He was not. Next day he stopped eating again but was drinking water. That went on for a couple of days and he became so lethargic I got him right into our Vet. Same thing, fluids, appetite stimulation med, nausea med, and he was okay the next day and then the same crummy feeling set in. Still running a dangerously high fever. My vet tech who is truly an angel came over every day and administered his meds to him, brought him over baby food to try, yet nothing got him to eat. Took him back the next day to our Vet who gave him more fluids and another drug (shot) for nausea. Still no diagnosis from the big test. Fever still very high. He was starting to develop "fatty liver syndrome" which can become fatal quickly. Though my vet said she was glad I was watching him like a hawk and bringing him in early enough she's not as concerned with that, right now.
Last night I was literally up with him all night. All he wanted was to be in my lap and sleep. He still felt very warm to me. He looked so puny and frail in my lap I was trying hard to stay strong for him and just held him close to me. This morning I had him at the Vet when they opened their doors. I was pestering God all night to help my boy.
More fluids, another shot for nausea and another for appetite stimulation and a much stronger antibiotic and finally a diagnosis. (this test also tested for Corona virus and 1,432 things worse). All of the nasty things came back negative, thank You, God. Apparently he had a UTI that moved up into his kidneys. Who knew?? That was the infection and the cause of the high fever.
Today his fever is down 1 degree and still he is not eating. Yet. She said until his fever breaks he won't feel much like eating. But not drinking water is worse. So tomorrow the temp check. And whatever else they feel is important, but I'll take that 1 degree with gratitude.

Breaks my heart to hear all this. You and Milo (and everyone else involved) are in my prayers. Your situation hits close to home. I'm a fellow-cat mom and my Tang had UTI and kidney disease. It was alway a roller coaster ride when he was sick. I'm sure it does for anyone who is a parent of fin-fur-feather children. Hugs, sen red. Keep the faith.
Absolutely...
All the love and healing in our hearts, and prayers from Toots - his fellow black brother and me.
