*beams* Oh yeah? I don't have much more time...but here for now, yes.
The House
HOB was one big cry fest for me. From the second volume through the end, my emotions weren’t mine to control. That takes skill since I’m not normally a crier *laughs*There are loads of novels available for free online. Mainly fan translated, so take with a grain of salt. But if you enjoy the genre, and have the time, give novelupdates.com a try.
The House
Heh, yeah. It's very poetic language, with lots of layers of meaning because of each different character that just doesn't come across without an excellent translator. That's one reason I highly recommend this book for English-readers who love the dramas. It was written in English to begin with, so it has ALL the aesthetics without any of the occasional clunky-ness of being translated.
Hi hi hi. I was hoping you would still be here.
The House
And I completely agree about the aesthetics of the prose in Chinese novel (most east Asian novels, really). The language itself is very indirect so it allows for lots of metaphors and reading between the lines. Gotta give it to the translators, xianxia/wuxia novels are definitely not easy to translate to English because the metaphors used don’t make sense most of the time *laughs*

I am not averse to BL, it's just... not my preference either and I have limited time for reading? But I have heard many good things about that one.

The House
If you’re not averse to some BL, I highly recommend The Heaven Official’s Blessing. It’s from the same author behind The Untamed (aka. The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation). Her writing style is similar in both novels, but her character building is phenomenal.
Smiling at the last note sent and penning a note back in response."As you wish, dear one. I would never argue."
i'll wait around a bit longer.
returns to drinking
Alas, i was likely away too long?
(and back...apologies)
The House
So the book I picked up from the library today is Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan. I've been looking at it for a long while and finally decided to do it.If you love Chinese xianxia dramas like I do... this is the novel for you. I'm not that far in but I'm in love with the aesthetics of the prose. I think having that love of the dramas helps a lot with visualizing the scenery but it's so beautifully described that it's not necessary. There are some familiar archetypes and I suspect I will also see some favorite tropes show up...
But that's what I came for. I'm not here for "literary" white man experimental bullshit. I want beautiful stories where it's not what happens next that matters as much as HOW it happens.
out
have a lovely night
*.. well. i will need to sort out o few things here in rt.. hope to be back soon*
The House
I don't think I can do what I want and need to do as a writer without first reviving that love.So I guess maybe as a bit of accountability I'll post about what I'm reading here every day? That way anyone who cares can follow along or nudge me to go do my reading. lol
