Senior Trump official blames Biden and 'leftist activists' for shooting
A senior Trump campaign official has come out publicly to attribute blame for the shooting at the Trump rally.Chris LaCivita, who is one of two people who runs Mr Trump's presidential campaign, wrote on X: "For years, and even today, leftist activists, Democrat donors and now even Joe Biden have made disgusting remarks and descriptions of shooting Donald Trump.
"It's high time they be held accountable for it. The best way is through the ballot box."
Our US correspondent Martha Kelner describes this as "a direct call to the Republican base to unite behind Donald Trump, to perhaps use this incident as fuel for the election campaign".
Security increased at Trump Tower following shooting
Following the shooting at the Trump Rally in Pennsylvania, authorities in New York have said they are increasing their presence at sites across the city. That includes Donald Trump's home, Trump Tower.
New York mayor Eric Adams said that was being done out of "an abundance of caution".
A spokesperson for the mayor, Fabien Levy, added: "While we are surging these resources, we want to be very clear that we see no nexus to NYC at this time."

Trump will attend Republican convention as scheduled, campaign confirms
We've just had a new statement from the Trump presidential campaign and the Republican party. The statement reiterates that Donald Trump is "doing well", and says he is "grateful to law enforcement and first responders for their fast action".
It goes on: "President Trump looks forward to joining you all in Milwaukee as we proceed with our convention to nominate him to serve as the 47th president of the United States.
"As our party's nominee, President Trump will continue to share his vision to Make America Great Again."
Reince Priebus, who is chairing the convention, added in a statement: "President Trump is in my prayers after surviving this assassination attempt.
"We are also heartbroken that reports indicate that at least one innocent person has been killed and perhaps others have been injured. This horrific violence has no place in America."
The convention is due to begin on Sunday, with Mr Trump due to attend on Monday, our US correspondent Martha Kelner reports.
As the statement says, it is where he will be formally confirmed as the Republican party's candidate for president in this year's election.

'Media and Democrats have blood on their hands,' claims former Trump advisor
A narrative is forming in some quarters of the right that the media and the left bear some responsibility for tonight's violence.Jason Meister, an advisory board member for the Trump 2020 campaign, told Sky News that this evening's events represented an "assassination attempt" - and that the "media and the Democrats have blood on their hands".
"This is coming on the heels of years of painting Trump and his supporters as hateful... the rhetoric in this country is to blame," he added.
"Donald Trump is beating Joe Biden in every single swing state, in every single poll leading up to this assassination attempt, and Joe Biden is against the ropes right now," he said.
As for how this could affect the former president's future approach to campaigning, he said: "President Trump has always been a fighter, and I don't think you're going to stop him from making those public appearances. He loves his country dearly."
