"We need him to think he'll survive. That if he gives us the codes, we'll cure him and then let him go. That's the bargaining chip." A counterfeit one that Echo had no intention of honoring.

"I'll extrapolate a plan. And let you know when he's in a position to execute it."

Mission half-prepped. Much to fill in. But the general direction was there. Sketching out the rest wouldn't be too much trouble. Sometimes, just starting these things was the hardest part.

And then he laughs as you pivot from kidnapping, blackmail, and murder into gossipy questions about his personal life.

"Not yet. Waiting for the anniversary of the day we first met in a couple weeks." A pause as he watches your reaction to that. "Si, I am that sentimental." You've made your displeasure clear, or at least feigned it, several times with how he and Haven behave in public towards each other.

"You doing okay?" Shifting gears again. Away from him. Towards you. He'd already asked you if things were okay and you...sort of brushed it away. This is more focused. His face isn't playful or even cordial. He's concerned and perfectly serious.

"Now I have no idea what to do."

Shrugs.

"I'm sure I'll figure it out."

She stood and joined you in tossing the empties into the trash. Discarding what's no longer useful, in a parallel to how they arranged their plans, settled the fate of the man they were talking about.

"…alright," she didn't sound— somber, necessarily, but it was a grim agreement on what was going to occupy their thoughts and energy going forward.

Abruptly, she shifted gears, even corresponding to a shift in her timbre. More pedestrian, even downright girly in her near-giddy cadence. "You pop the question yet? Or is this part of the gift-wrap on the ring?"

Hell, she didn't even know about the great-great-great-grandmother, otherwise she'd be bursting with additional questions.
