I sat and watched the camp and pens below in the meadow.

There were now over a dozen goblin warriors in the slavers camp and it was clear that neither the human slavers nor the goblin warriors cared much for each other. I could not hear what was being said during a heated exchange between the leader of the goblins who had brought the Tate women in and Marconus. Their voices were loud and carried but their words were lost to Me. All I could make out was the Goblin wanted paid for his slaves and Marconus was not happy about the slaves for some reason as he kept pointing to the slave pens. Or to one of the slave pens to be exact.

I followed the line of his pointing and it was not to the three pens of female slaves but to the pen of male slave that was barely half full. While the other three pens were full.

Which brought up another good question. Those that we had came to rescue were no longer mere captives but now legally documented slaves. In a sense we were too slow and too late. Partly that was My fault as I could have attacked the goblins before they were delivered to this slaver. But then I would not have known of the connection.

Then right at dusk another slave and freight wagon pulled into camp. The goblin warriors followed Marconus to the freight wagon. I watched as each of the raiders were given a pouch and powder horn first then a pistol from the cargo of the wagon.

Now I know the why of things. Goblins while crafty little bastards had not been able to craft their own flint lock firearms. Nobody knew why this was. But now they were trading slaves for guns. Once they received their pay for the slaves they had sold to Marconus, the goblins wasted no time leaving the camp.
