Deadeye Gun Range
"No, you can certainly rent out equipment — like you're bowling or something — but then you gotta go touch other peoples' stuff, and whatever abuse they put the rental gear through, and the wear and tear factor leaves you without a whole lot of basis with which to learn lessons that can carry over platform-to-platform…" Holly explained casually, ducking the bit about discovering a gender under the mental archaeology they had a habit of performing.

She didn't want to set up any sort of expectation, since the management of such was always at the crux of what she… heard was crucial in a poly relationship.

The comment about a safe and some kind of perilous situation gets a nod from her — she didn't have an argument against it, neither did she really feel equipped or motivated for any sort of debate — not only because you had a point, but because she knew that she didn't have the moral high-ground in the conversation.

…but as far as she was known, publicly, she was just an innocent entrepreneur, some unlikely crypto girlboss pushing alternative funding solutions for trendy financiers in The City. Her hobbies didn't really factor in.

"What, the ear-pro? Yeah, well normally you can just wear stronger sound-deadening but we wanna talk in spite of it, yaknow?" Again, the mechanics and 'Blocking' of their outing gave her the excuse to cherry-pick just what she decided to react to — a passing the impetus to you on occasion to repeat something you placed emphasis in, to exercise that ownership that she keeps prattling on about.

"Ooooh yeah, the cinnamon buns. I'm sure it's better fresh, I ended up having to nuke one back to life last weekend but it was still top — but you don't owe them anything, it's all good."

…and there was this lingering threat, like a looming danger of… Wholesomeness. A warmth that she couldn't abide, to reiterate just what made you so magnetic in the first place. This hint that you were made of a different fabric than the rest of what she considered typical, conventional, where people were hard to each other as a reaction against a sense of personal endangerment — and not in the literal sense, of which one may require a gun safe, but… a question against their own assumptions. Maybe that's part of what gave your parents such a strong reaction to your blooming and development — an opinion more suited for Lilly than Holly.

As the got set up at a lane and associated utility table, Holly gestured for the boxes to be set down before she moved the closed boxes such that the muzzles hidden therein were pointing downrange from the table, demonstrating that she took her safety protocols Very seriously.

…this was part of the endeavor here, after all. Didactic Holly emerged, the weary and old-soul Holly that could suspend her ebullient humor.

"…alright, so…" She had to awkwardly curl her fingers in slight exaggeration to work the locks in spite of her nails, and the boxes were opened. "Imagine a laser pointing out of the barrels, even if you know there's no bullets treat it as though it's loaded and unsafe at all times, never shine that imaginary laser at anything you're not willing to destroy. Slide lock, mag release… safety's over here… it stays on until you're ready to aim and fire. Finger stays off the trigger by the same principle, you can just point it straight as a habit."

Click. Click, demonstrating the safety on the pistol first.

"The moment you're done firing, safety goes back on, make sure there's nothing in the chamber, when you're done set it down pointing downrange."

The other users at the range, who were an eclectic sort from the neighborhood, paid them little mind. "…uh if you feel a tiny bee-sting that might be a casing on skin, try not to flinch on that? Mmmmm, and this is just a tiny nine-mil but you still should grip it tight since it's a bit light, it's gonna jump a lil more than you expect it to."

Oooh, this was exciting. Holly hadn't slipped into this role since she showed Dax how to shoot.

"You wanna give 'er a go? Don't focus on accuracy for this mag, just get used to how it feels."

With that, she handed you the pistol and mag and followed you to the booth with a Wide grin.

This one made me think of you, Suz. Rest in Peace.

The kids are in town for a funeral
So pack the car and dry your eyes
I know they got plenty of young blood left in 'em
And plenty nights under pink skies
You taught 'em to enjoy

So clean the house, clear the drawers
Mop the floors, stand tall
Like no one's ever been here
Before or at all
And don't you mention all the inches
That are scraped on the doorframe
We all know you tiptoed
Up to 4'1" back in '08

If you could see 'em now, you'd be proud
But you'd think they's yuppies
Your funeral was beautiful
I bet God heard you comin'

The kids are in town for a funeral
And the grass all smells the same
As the day you broke your arm swingin'
On that kid out on the river
You bailed him out, never said a thing
About Jesus or the way he's livin'

If you could see 'em now, you'd be proud
But you'd think they's yuppies
Your funeral was beautiful
I bet God heard you comin'

If you could see 'em now, you'd be proud
But you'd think they's yuppies
Your funeral was beautiful
I bet God heard you comin'

The kids are in town for a funeral
So pack the car and dry your eyes
I know they got plenty young blood left in 'em
And plenty nights under pink skies
You taught 'em to enjoy
