The remark about your family, however, slowed her momentum to something that might even border on empathy, finally stopping her busy pacing just to lean against some bare concrete that made up one of the walls of the unfinished apartment.
"…shit. Family's complicated, choom. But yeah, curiosity satisfied? I don't know just what her grand design is, I just know that Mom isn't exactly the caring and nurturing type. Eager to kick us all out of the nest to go fend for ourselves, or stay on and be processed into Corpo-mulch. I guess it's better than not-knowing."

Truly, they want to be less sober if they're talking about this. Enough alcohol to cushion the inevitable judgement and rejection that will follow.

Like I'm not gonna get into it right now, I just—" her nose made a noise as she tented her fingers around the bridge and hazarded an adjustment, just intuitively towards where she was feeling some pressure. It… appeared to crack back into alignment, at the cost of a new stream of blood which she pinched off.
"Ugh! Ow… I don't know, Mike. Saddie was the kid psychopath that would pull the legs off some desert scorpions and make them fight each other, okay? No idea what drives her these days. I'm just, uh…" MILLIE joined your rummaging, though in her case it was for some first aid supplies. No such luck, even though there was a tin in the skeletonized bathroom, the tin was empty.
The place did have water, though, maybe connected to Eventide not far from here. She tossed her jacket and started to wash her hands and face.
"You think we have, like, some weird sibling branwave shit going on, like I magically know everything the others do? Wait, do you have any siblings?"

Had people been trying to change the vibe? Their bad. They've been clearly pretty wrapped in their own head, and their own heartbreak.Perhaps it makes sense most people decided to avoid him, rather than join him at the bar. A nod of thanks for Mai Tai, which he will drink some of, more than sip. Still too sober.
Ranch water? That has him giving you a curious look. "What's a ranch water?" Hm. Maybe they're less sober than they thought, that was out loud.
Then, back to their Mai Tai - a surprised blink at the nudge, which shifts to befuddled as you tell him you're cutting him off.
"I'm not nearly drunk enough to-" and then what you actually said registers, and that's the point where the tips of their ears go pink. Pretty girl says nice things? The blush can't be helped.
You've got his interest, though, half turning to face you as he tries to place the pretty accent.
"If you think the songs are sad, I'm pretty sure the whole deal will be more sad. And you'll want to take back the nice things you said." Their words aren't slurred, but maybe they are a little more drunk than tipsy, given the fluidity, and also the content.
"You're telling me you'd rather hear my sad story, than sing it? Really?"

Had to call 911 -- there was a truck on fire in my (very small) apartment parking lot. Thank goodness I wasn't asleep yet. When I looked out, some guy was throwing liquid on it. I don't know whether it was water or an accelerant. He was yelling something, and I think he was probably drunk or high, because there was no one else out there and all the other apartment lights were off.Hats off to firefighters. 100%. They made short work of it. It was huge and I thought the truck was going to blow any second. But they caught it before it did.
Just a little drama to spice up your Wednesday night.

"Imagine getting eaten by that thing! That mouth is larger than my house's door."
Oh, she wanted credit for the story.
