it's Saturday night...our heat wave appears to be over for a week or so...(which is good...our AC is busted)...and i'm listening to the "Music of the Season" channel playing "Christmas in July" music...at least now i can do some laundry...i won't run the dryer when it's much over 80F...it's in a little outside shed...

it's been quite a challenge with the AC broken...it started smoking just before the 4th...then an odd charge froze the bank account (and they didn't bother to contact us about it)...plus we're still resolving some of the HOA issues, so no pool...sooooo...lots of afternoon naps...funny...because we can sleep through the hottest part...but it's too hot to sleep at night...

We did get an agreement worked out with the HOA...there were some misunderstandings on both sides...and that bank thing...we couldn't pay if we wanted to...but that uses a debit card...and they insisted the bank wouldn't take that...they learned that's now possible (well, we are all old-timers)...so...now we just need the total and we're set...they're content with the clearing out of boxes and storage that we did (and some i "hid" by using silver grey bins against the silver grey walls in the carport)...all well beyond the 19.5 ft they insist the Fire Marshal wants empty at the front of the carport (evidently so all cars can be pulled in under the roof...but i can't find that on the Fire Marshal's webpage)...

today we had a guy, Carlos, come do most of the yardwork...lots of bending and stooping...especially these damn vines that grow up through the crawlspace...over all the side yard...including up against the neighbor's house...we still have the hedge in front to cut...but that's for another day...(and i noted tonight that i missed some weeding on the other neighbor's side...my bad)...it wasn't cheap...actually, maybe a little overpriced...but i only had to strain myself moving one big bin (full of canned goods) so i could get the green waste can out...so it was worth it...

i spent most of the day in the carport emptying boxes and trying to figure out where i'll put it all...(i'm still buying too many tees and Hawaiian shirts from Temu...but when they're under $10, it's so tempting)...and i kept falling asleep...with the dream in segments...i spent so long working for the University that my brain's fall-back setting for random dreams is some kind of campus with lots of buildings and lawns...

i'm happy with a treat i bought myself today...we have a new Hawaiian BBQ down the road...it's simple...mostly just grilled meat with white rice and mac salad (yes, both on every plate)...i had chicken...i'd swear it was at least half a bird...for $12.75...i added a side of cabbage & carrot...like the stuff for coleslaw only sauteed...and it was more than i could eat...

i had the chance to read a whole book last Sunday...a basic modern gothic from an author i loved back in high school...she wrote mysteries in juvenile, YA and adult stories...Phyllis A. Whitney...easy read...but satisfying...

i'm hoping to do the same thing tomorrow...though i still have to put more stuff away so we don't get too far behind on boxes...some were groceries/pantry...some fans and water mister "cobras"...but also birthday presents for Baron Igor and me...i bought them all, of course...but some i got us different versions of the same thing...like ballcaps with fancy embroidered dragons in separate colors...

we've been talking about trying to live a little healthier...and that we both (but especially Baron Igor) need to drink more water...so i got us 40oz drinking bottles...with cute caps for the straws (mine is a butterfly)...his mug is green marbled in many shades...mine is a fancy Mexican design...it's more than i wanted to spend...but it makes me smile...https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C9VQBGXP?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

i bought us a couple mini "wading" pools...blow up...the kind you wash your feet off with after walking across the lawn to get in the pool)...i think that should help us stay cool on the patio in the afternoons...soaking my feet always helped when i was a kid...

at least it's been cool most nights...though the house has mostly stayed above 70...which is uncomfortably warm for my sleep...especially since i don't like drafts/breezes on my skin...and Baron Igor loves having the fan on him)...

We have our home services company coming later next week to do whatever is needed...we may need a new AC unit...i think ours is old...it's round...and i don't think they do those much these days...i'm hoping they'll have time earlier in the week to come over and assess the situation...

We've gotten several things checked off our To Do list...so the others don't seem so intimidating...

Some days are still rough...but overall, Life is good...
