"It's also really about connection, for me. Like you say, we're social creatures - and theatre is all about that. Even the audience, y'know? Part of the magic of theatre is the collective experience of being in a specific space, at a specific time, witnessing a specific thing with a bunch of other people. On stage, you're connecting with the audience, too - they're not just witnesses, but participants. They change the performance, just by being there, by having different reactions, different vibes.

"Connecting through story is a pretty key part of humanity, a key element of empathy and understanding. It gives us insight into ourselves, the world around us - even historically, we learn a lot from the kinds of art people made, as much as the art itself.

"Connection to self, too. I don't know, I feel more me when I'm acting. Which is maybe an absurd thing to say, but..." he shrugs a little.

It's a reasonable thing, to think it's all worry about the success of the play - because a lot hinges on the success of the play. It's a reasonable thing, too, that he's oblivious to the part you're playing for him. Maybe there are faint glimpses - but faint, and not into the profit-motivated atrocities, so much as the story that lead up to them.

"It's an interesting thing - Alice's parents are tragic. Deeply tragic. But she's so much more willing than Ben to take a risk on the relationship." On love, though he's steering clear of that word.

You take him at his word, and get a grin. "If we're talking long-term girlfriends, one. I don't know I'd quantify her as a partner... or do you mean, like, girlfriends? Or something else?" Sure, it's a personal question - but not the kind of personal he struggles with, or might struggle with. There's no hidden pain in it.

"My dear Jynx, Xavier," he began, his tone affectionate yet lighthearted, "as much as I would dearly love to stay and attempt to drink Xavier under the table, I find myself longing to take my lady home and snuggle her up a bit."

He winked playfully at Teagan, who smiled in return.

"Perhaps," he continued, turning back to Xavier and Jynx, "we should plan to get together at the estate sometime soon. How about a picnic in the garden? We could enjoy some quality family time amidst the beauty of nature."
