"I'm thoroughly convinced that food can cure anything…" Holly was still picking at what remained of her herb chicken — cold by now, but she wasn't complaining.
She could be the slowest at mealtime, like she was constantly distractable, which was a point of aggravation for her mom and siblings.

"…you know, minus all the stuff that requires actual medicine to cure, here — Holly Blanc is not a substitute for medical advice…" She spontaneously began to recite like a disclaimer on social media.

There was also a basket of mostly-gone, now-cold fries, too, that was originally a communal pile back when there were others around their set of booths, now reduced to just them.

She wasn't trying to monitor your status throughout the outing, but she would be lying if she said she didn't notice how it changed over the night, how with each departing male cast member you seemed less burdened, and when it was just the girls you were even less so, and now with just the two of them? Was she delusional in thinking you felt the most authentic?

I know you can't promise to not be upset by it, but…" Holly brought out her phone, that infernal attention-vampire device, and set it down on the table — that glossy onyx monolith, its screen off for the moment, reflecting the hanging lights of the diner on its dim, glare-reducing surface.

A brightly-decorated index finger rested over the fingerprint reader and the screen awoke, showing you… You. That picture she snapped the other day, candid, you thinking you're alone, shrunken in on yourself, hands on head, elbows on knees. Not fully comfortable.

She looked up from the picture at you, attempting some empathy. "…picture says a thousand words, or whatever cliché…"
