The spike-tendril slowly pulls back from your eye, arching up like a scorpion's tail and hovering over your head. Ready to drop straight into your brainstem if Echo snaps his fingers.

Evelyn felt her heart swell at Rip’s words and the warmth in his eyes. The way he grinned, the comforting touch of his hand, and his promise to listen without interruption gave her the strength she needed to share her truth.

"Rip,"

she began, her voice soft but steady,

"I want to share everything with you, too. Being open and honest is so important to me, especially after everything I’ve been through."

She took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts.

"Before I delve into the most difficult part, I want to say that you’re right. My grandparents owned a large cattle ranch, and I spent a lot of my childhood there. That’s where I learned all those little things, like how to handle a cowboy hat and help with boots."

A wistful smile crossed her face as she remembered those simpler, happier times.

"I miss those days, but being here with you makes me feel like I can reconnect with that part of myself."

Her smile faded as she prepared to share the painful truth.

"Rip, there’s something I need to tell you that’s very important. It’s not easy for me to say, but I need you to know. I had another child besides Vanessa. A son. who was stillborn...."

She felt tears welling up as she continued.

"It happened six years ago. Charles... he was violent, and during one of his rages, he beat me so badly that I suffered a stillbirth. Vanessa doesn't know the truth. She was told that I slipped down the stairs, which explained why I was so banged up and the loss of the baby. She believed it because it was easier than facing the truth about her father."

Evelyn knew she had to continue.

"The beating was so severe that I can’t have any more children. Things went wrong, and I lost the ability to conceive. It’s only fair that I tell you this now. I can’t give you babies, Rip."

She looked down, her voice trembling.

"If that is an issue or a problem, now would be a good time to halt... us, I guess is what I’m saying."

The room was silent as Evelyn finished speaking, her heart pounding in her chest. She felt vulnerable and exposed, but also relieved that she had finally shared this deeply personal part of her past. She waited for Rip’s response, hoping that his love and understanding would remain steadfast despite the painful truth she had revealed.
