Surely some archaeological finds that were brilliant were flukes? And he does have a sense that you don't think you really did anything to get him there. It's been there in the spaces between what you've said, the moments of hesitation.

He might be guileless, but he's usually pretty okay at reading people. Well, people who don't trigger all his issues and insecurities.

Don't love being burdened with the weight of glorious purpose? Yeah, that's fair. The avalance has started, though, and it's too late for the pebbles to have a say in the very real consequences of what they've explored so far. Maybe the ones going forward.

Again, perhaps the sense he's far more interested in your interest, than the guns themselves. "Damn, Holl, you know your stuff." He's impressed. They appreciate skill mastery, even if the skill is one they're not actually into themself.

It does not fit with the image they had of you, but that's not bad. THey don't know how it fits in yet, but you wear it well.

A blink, and then he's hastily untucking his shirt. "Ow, yeah, that souds unpleasant. And probably not a regular thing, but I'm leaving the door open to being surprised."

You are all kinds of new for him, admittedly. A huff of a laugh. "Mmm, yeah, that sounds wise. Wouldn't want to go off prematurely."

It's probably true, going out of their habits and comfort zones is a good call. Completely divorced from everything Elodie, if not everything Sterling.

Alejandro, yes, he remembers. "Ah, okay, cool. He seems... very capable." A wry smile. "He seemed less, uh acerbic with you and Brix."

A potential between Alejandro and his father isn't exactly a point in Alejandro's favour. Expression far off for a moment, at the Army coming into the picture. "Ah. Yeah. I guess that's true of most industries. Cool new tools is, well, cool."

They wouldn't begrudge you the giggles, you know. Some of it is memory, but most of it? Clearly not. They weren't this tall, this built, this, when they'd last held a gun. "It's easier with actual muscle mass," it's almost a murmur, something barely audible through the ear-wear.

The moment they've emptied the magazine, the switch goes back on, finger pulls away from the trigger, and the gun points a little downward. He tries to be a good student. A crooked smile offered your way. "Will you hold it against me if I say I'm definitely not serious about shooting? It's cool to do with you, but..." they shrug a little. "I mean, it will piss my father off if I learn to shoot well from you, instead of him, but he'd have to talk to me to know about it."

Okay, he actually almost made it appealing to himself with that one.

The gun is carefully set down as your tone shifts to something flatter. Turning to watch you, trying to get a better read on you - but no, you're not all that transparent to start with. Their expression thoughtful, and the nod at checking before they stick their neck out is met with an immediate nod. There's a subtle vibe that you're not delighted with this, and his concern is for that, for you. A question on the verge of being asked.

The comment on complicated emotions actually explains a lot. Any response, though, is lost in the plowing through, on to the next thing. The rather more intimidating gun you're bringing out. They'd have to know more about guns to know it's not something to worry about.

Then you're plowing through, which is a clear indicator that no, talking about it with him isn't really high on the list. While he's doing his best to be attentive to the instructions, it's harder than it was the first go around.

"Okay, wow, complicated." Both the gun, and the situation. They will carefully accept the weapon when you hand it to them. "If you ever do want to talk about any of it, I'm infinitely better with other peoples' complicated emotions than my own." A touch of self-deprecating humour, to lighten the offer a little.

As they go through the steps you'd just walked them through, they add, "what is the etiquette on dating other people? I know transparency is a big thing, but... if I go on a date with someone, do you prefer I tell you ahead of time? Tell you how it went?" A flick of those pale eyes to you, then back to the target in front of them. "That's an individual preference, right, not... a general set of rules for everyone?"

Money where their mouth is. Poly-curious, means poly-questions. They think they followed the steps with the gun, but aren't actually sure, so add, "is this right?" It isn't. They've missed the shrug up and forward.
