Quintessentially, Holly fell into Alice in the same progress as folding into a polite dance at a wedding reception, swaying into your momentum to the tune of imaginary music.

She had to dance as Alice, because to dance as Holly was… well it was an entirely different thing together, and required a completely different setting, and for you to be a completely different kind of partner.

No, she was Alice, at a friend's wedding reception, as your Plus One, like kids at Prom grown up… well a hypothetical middle-class awkward nerd prom in some City highschool and definitely not Rockshore. Let's just say prom back at her school was a lot more chaotic.

This was a hands on the small of your back, the other offered out for yours to take kind of dance, and even that had to be run through the filter of thin awkwardness for the scene.

…but it was nice, and Holly could be caught drawing inwards like she was imagining the world through Alice as perhaps a rubric for Holly budding a branching personality, one that danced like this, that held and was-held…

…and she wanted to smile genuinely as you offered encouragement, but instead picked up Alice's semi-comfortable rictus. It was your line, was it not?

Yeah, a real, honest to goodness script!

The arts are simultaneously very silly, and very serious. You interrupted a tickle fight and maybe a seduction - and they were all business by the time you saw them. He hoped.

.. but yeah, no guns or drugs. Yikes?

There were signs, of course, if you were looking for them. The way Elodie and Leo had been flushed when you came in. The way they look at each other like they hung the moon and stars. All subtle, now that they were in professionals mode.

You did not dwell and he was oblivious. Full of all the warmth, interest, curiousity and charm you'd encountered at the party, all directed at you now, too.

Brows lift when he realizes you really mean it, a low laugh. "Yeah, I'm ready."

There's a shift as he moves in closer, an hand settling at the small of your back, the other offered out for yours to take. A mental shift, as he finds Ben once more to embody and it's a subtle thing, the shift in body language, the way his hands connect with yours.

For a moment, a flash of Leo, a conspiratorial grin as he leans in to say, 'You've got this." That said, he straights up, more Ben than Leo, and if you let him, he's going to start dancing with you.

Oh wow it was a real script, like it was written in Courier.

And there wasn't any micro-managing direction to it at all, either, to really give a sense of what the scene was calling for.

Yes, obviously, Holly was practically effervescing to get to indulge at least the fantasy of getting a role, to do something fun and out-of-pattern, to share space with someone who was completely out of her usual orbit of extremely serious people.

…not that there was anything not serious about the performing arts, just there were far less guns and drugs involved.

…okay far fewer guns, at least.

Holly did her best to be warm, with her eyes scattering about your features just doing all that she could not to dwell.

When she was with Caroline at the party, she felt like she was wearing a suit of armor, one that made her feel less accountable, like she was a character in a show of a different nature altogether.

Here, at auditions, with Elodie Stone dutifully watching and carrying the aura of what Holly could absolutely interpret as endearment to you, plus…

No, it really didn't linger on Holly's thoughts. Because she's feeling a little stupid right now.

"…alright alright, I think I'm ready to go."

Holly stepped back, evaluating herself. Nah yeah, this was danceable, a bit retro like she was either embodying or making fun of the Priscilla-esque aesthetic, as long as the dance scene was more The City, less Rockshore.

And she's been wearing heels since high school, so that wasn't a big deal. "You really?"

Because you'd have to be the one to actively stop her if you were the one who needed a minute, otherwise she's falling in close to merge into a dance. The two characters were supposed to have a non-romantic arrangement as the premise of the story, a boundary that crumbles but in this scene, establishing their cooperation in coordinating a lie to the people around them.

So close, but not too close, for… both in-character and out-of-character reasons, though that wasn't to say Holly wasn't one to commit to the bit.
