He is smiling and there are tears in his eyes, but no surprise on his face.

The palms of his hands are pressed together in front of his face, and touching his lips like a prayer he wants to kiss. And then one of those unholy hands comes down to rest over his heart, "My Friandise has come home."

He takes a step toward me and I can't make myself move, but my very being recoils inwardly. "No."

I wait.

He comes closer still and reaches out to touch a rain-wet tangle of hair, but not my skin. "I knew it would be too much for you out there, my Friandise. I knew you would return."

Oscar bands one arm across my chest from shoulder to shoulder while he uses his other hand to search me. It takes him only seconds to produce the Slaught-O-Matic from my waistband. He holds it out to Guillermo who tsks and sets it aside. "You won't need that here."

I can’t wait much longer or Oscar will find the EMPs in my jacket pockets and take them from me, ensuring that I will never leave this place again. Oscar's hand is inside my shirt, checking to see if I have anything else stashed there.

But, for once, Guillermo does what I need him to: He reaches out and cups my face, skin on skin.
