There was a stick with a sharpened end just for stabbing one of the dried dung so one could then toss it into the fire and move it into place.

The central fire was large so it took many pieces to energize the flames.
Some from the tomb cities beyond the Plains might think it an awful chore but it wasn't.
There was no smell and slaves didn't touch the pieces with bare hands.

It was what it was - a Camp chore.

Dogtown
After a thorough investigation into where the package from Vesper Hobbs had gone, all his security chief had managed to find was...nothing. There was no record of its arrival. No one remembers processing it. And it was nowhere on the ship.

Sadly, whatever pictures Vesper had sent him were now lost in the aether. Tragic. Sad. Heartbreaking.

And now he needed a break after a long day. He was tired. Cranky. Old. Older than his grandmother now. So he disembarked down the gangway of The Zantetsuken and out into the night. Spear on his back, sword at his hip. It was all he needed to defend himself. That and his reputation after the last few months.

The Captain was tired of being The Captain and needed a reprieve for the evening.
