Deadeye Gun Range
Well, the primary thing was that Holly sincerely felt like discovering aspects of you that were previously unknown or buried was a massive fluke, which… well it sorta was.

And just like with anything, all actions and conversations felt like they were burdened with some sort of additional expectation — whether it was something as profound as what is to naturally follow the process of knowing one another, or perhaps something more profound like discovering more radical aspects — maybe you were polyamorous, or maybe you were, as you said, merely 'Poly-curious'.

…and it was that curiosity that she blamed for the initial damage, the fallout between you and Elodie. It wasn't the objective truth, but merely the way Holly's flawed human perceptions interpreted the data.

"Yeah, and don't expect gear out-of-the-box to handle like this, my personal P365 is a couple ounces lighter, the trigger doesn't travel as far as most other double-actions and has a much more precise actuation point…" she started to go on, technical like she were on business with Alejandro Milan conversing about gear to some client.

…and that's somewhat what occurred to Holly. The girl you were conversing with sounded, looked like the same one you thought you knew, but it was like she just donned a new hat and it cascaded changes all throughout her affect.

"I mean I know you probably don't plan on taking this up as a regular thing, but casings touching your skin is an inevitability — you might as well get used to it. Untuck your top, though, so that if one gets into your shirt it'll tumble down instead of get stuck…"

Still, in spite of what hat she was wearing, she couldn't deny how it felt to play sherpa to a new experience for you, part of the same feeling of new-ness that drew her in the first place. Like taking someone's virginity, only less intimate. "Sexy stance corrections only for when the weapon's empty and cleared, unfortunately. Much as I would love to reach in and grab ya while you've got a hot gun in your hands…"

For once, though, watching you fearlessly handle that pistol and be open to the (not-really-new) experience invigorated her image of you. She had forgotten that you told her you were going to see Lilly, but if she knew about the advice you received, she may even think something out of your comfort zone, here, might be conducive to your health. Even if you weren't planning on coming back.

"Friend of mine got me into it. You met him, the Spaniard. Alejandro? You said his vibe was a lil off? He's just… he's just like that. But he takes this stuff seriously, too."

Actually, there was more of a potential between him and you than either of them might realize — well, more likely him and your father. "Army's actually in the process of swapping to a new standard. New gear is actually kinda exciting."

Holly did review how you stood, though, how you intuitively placed both hands and mimicked what you might have seen in entertainment media — a realization that lost her giggles behind the sound-ducking of the hearing protection each time you fired. Twelve in total in the magazine, the slide locking back and exposing the barrel when you were empty.

Holly peeked in from the corner of your vision, though, to double-check that there were no failures or a jam, nodding. "Yeah you're fine, if you're serious about shooting we can get into proper this-or-that or strategies for getting better at it…

So I mean… about Brix, I don't know. It's kind of a weird time right now — he went out last night with some new girl, didn't really… don't really know how it went. Building a bridge requires a willingness from all sides. Lemme make sure that's true before I let you stick your neck out," Even though the ear-cups did a faithful job of making sure they could hear each other, Holly still instinctively raised her voice, flattening her tone and making it a little more difficult to read… not that she was too transparent to begin with.

"I'm not nearly as confident in handling peoples' complicated emotions as I am with punching holes through paper."

Speaking of which, she brought out the other weapon. It kinda looked like your stereotypical AR-15, only with a suppressor and a red-dot sight and a Tiny ten-round magazine that barely peeked out over the magazine well. All to just be compliant and to give the impression that she was on the up-and-up, a harmless Enjoyer rather than anyone to be worried about.

"Oookay this is actually going to have less of a kick…" she explained, bulldozing the danger of talking about her relationship with Brix. "…mag release, charging handle, safety… look through that box, if you're properly aligned you'll see a red dot, put it on the target. Bit different from the pistol — use the grip just to control the trigger and support the center of gravity. Forward hand on the shroud, use it to push back a little against your shoulder, shrug that shoulder up and forward so it's tight against the meat there, aim with that same forward hand. Cheek goes against the stock, hold it tight so it doesn't vibrate too hard against your face."

Yeah, she could teach. A lot of buyers weren't themselves shooters, in the larger market of things, and it made a good impression with her and Alejandro's business if the short blonde with him seemed to know her shit inside and out.

For Leo Sterling, however, she just wanted to impart a sense of safety. For all of the impression she knew she put out early on, what with how she showed up to her audition and first rehearsal, she knew she made some sort of impression. To make the opposite meant she could at least try to fill in everything in between.
