The impression to give was to bolster the sense that Holly was totally legit and responsible, but also to acclimatize Leo Sterling to the idea that she carried, knew her way around weapons, and that it wasn't anything to really be alarmed about.

…whether or not that was in any way successful was another matter entirely.

The drive out was done in the Rover, like a security clamshell that let her move the two of them back to that less-than-safe-feeling neighborhood of The Palisades without the palpable sense that things were ever less than perfectly normal.

Because you weren't exactly able to situate a gun range next to some downtown coffee shop for obvious noise reasons, so it landed on some weird gray area for zoning between commercial and industrial.

That wasn't to say it was some unmitigated cacophony, what with the muted popcorn of the premises from the outside, but one could easily understand why it was out of the way.

Holly rolled diagonally across two parking spots outside of the shop and range, resting her finger off of the engine button as she undid her belt and looked across the SUV cabin to Leo.

"Alright so it's nothing to really be scared of — did your dad make you do this, ever? Like if this is overly triggering [No pun intended] we can totally back out. I just figure if you wanted to get to know me, this is part of what I do for fun…"
