It hits just about the moment his locker closes after he's taken out his white coat. Tension in his head, a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach, his shoulders locking, chest tight, his veins feeling cold.

This could go two directions. Continue, or stop. An easy fix would be an anxiolytic inhaler, a few puffs, then gone. That's an option.

He walks over to a sink in the locker area and splashes water on his face, grabs the sink for a second, and breathes.

If everything is high priority, and he can't find a direction or thought to stick with, it would escalate to panic and that doesn't help.

The path through is to have those structured thoughts. To have the purpose. To have the meaning. Things that are the most important so that other things become less so and fall in line. Anxious thoughts or even physiological reactions to things under the surface can abate with an ordered world.

His patients. He thinks about that list filing into his daily schedule. Not as some ever increasing burden, but each a fresh opportunity.

That helps a little.

He thinks about Sara. What she looks like when she sleeps. Still. Serene. A hold over from her Synn origins, perfect muscle atonia at night. Like a doll. It grew on him. Became a comfort. A reason for him to actually sleep, to be next to.

His chest, in a few deep breaths, clears of tension. He can lower his shoulders. He can feel the ache in his temples abate, slowly.

It passes.

Walking towards a team of heavily armed men just half an hour ago has an effect, but it's controllable.

He visualizes how well his treatment and prep for the next patients will be.

Then, in minutes, he'd forget this ever happened.
