submission is not weakness. It takes strength and courage and trust to surrender herself to the unknown,

we just discovered this today...one of the newer flavors from Liquid Death...our favorite "basically water" brand...

This is clearly watermelon flavoring...BUT there's something more...

and after a few Tigger-style "considering" tastes...and reading the can...i discovered that it's got added paprika and lime juice...so it's like the Mexican watermelon snacks we get...

GOOD stuff...refreshing...

Deadeye Gun Range
"Mmmmmnnnyeah, well I mean maybe we start to excavate some of the brain-dust, divine your machine under the hieroglyphics under that mop of yours," Holly reached over to flick one of your stray locks with a lazy grin.

She was dressed casually, and also as though she was inviting the sting of hot brass on bare skin with the tank top. From where you were seated you might notice the slight, pale dash across her upper right arm where she'd been grazed, over a year ago.

The other scar on the outside of her left thigh wasn't so evident.

"…maybe you were doing poorly at a subconscious level, a rejection that you had control over. Young Leo Sterling's rebellion via pretend incompetence…"

That previous grin persisted as she got out, pushing a button near the door sill to open the tailgate where several pelican cases sat stacked on top of each other and secured with belts. Assuming you were joining her to review the inventory, she shrugged in answer of your last question.

"…I know I literally just said I do this for fun, but I guess it's not 'fun' in the normal sense, like the play is fun and fooling around is fun, spending time with you is fun. This is… like any mastery of any skill?"

Holly undid the fasten that held the belt that held the boxes, picking out one small one and one longer one. "Sig P365, like the Toyota Corolla of handguns."

The longer box, unopened, was tapped at the end of her almond, nude-glossed fingernail. "M&P-15 in .226 NATO, like the most un-intimidating long arm, like I don't wanna treat you like you ain't ever been out before but if it's been a while, you know?"

Frankly, the boxes were heavier than the weapons contained therein, but she left it to you to carry them in.

"I mean I am not opposed to over-writing shit memories with better ones. Besides, if you're gonna live alone then, like… I mean what is it they all say? Better to have it and not-need it, than need it and not-have it?"

Or some other trite slogan that motivated people to spend their money on weaponry, pushing forward the fears that shouted louder than more practical and imminent concerns like hostility between Americans. Holly could compartmentalize, a bit.

"I know, I know, June ends and the first thing we do is bust out some guns. What a timeline, right?"

The shop itself was mercifully air conditioned, but carried that faint burning smell of cordite and burned, unburned powder that circulated in spite of the barriers separating the store and the range. Budd, a taciturn figure with wraparound shades and a circle beard that looked like he'd be delivering political hot takes from the inside of his pickup, regarded them both but didn't say anything.

Holly provided ear-protection from her bag, a set of noise-canceling battery-operated headphones that clamped tighter than you'd expect and, once the button was pushed on the left cup to turn it on, filtered conversations and muted the pops that grew louder once they were inside, the range of available noise shrunken into just the range of tones of conversation. Holly's higher register seemed to just barely make it through the filter. "…how's the move-in so far? I heard you picked out enough furniture to get settled — the hotel is still paid up til the end of the week, though, if you prefer. Julie says she misses your baking, what was it that you made again?"
