Sometimes it helps to have a brain that's a jumble of trivia...

i'm in a study group that's reading a series of lectures on the relationship between the Major Arcana of the Tarot with the Kabalah and the Tree of Life...

This week we were reading about the Justice card...which features a sword...and the lecturer referred to it as a "vorpal" sword...

and i was the only one in our group (8, i think) who knew what he was referring to...

because back in high school...an eon or so ago...i had to memorize and recite a poem for English class...and the one i chose was "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carrol...

Huh? How could anybody who made it through HS English NOT know about "vorpal"?

chuckling, cos I immediately knew it from Jabberwocky as well. I still have my book of Lewis Carrol poems, as well as the Alice books. I've always loved them. I once read The Jumblies to my class of SEN 8 - 10 year olds. They loved it!

krysta...in my experience, the best way to remember something...especially like a poem...is putting it to music...i can remember all kinds of liturgical and literary stuff from chorus and church choir...

knowing the notes that belong in a spot helps to recall the words...and vice versa...

’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
      All mimsy were the borogoves,
      And the mome raths outgrabe.

We sang it in high school choir my junior year. I think it was the choir's favorite piece. *s*
