I've lingered a few times at the entrance, never given it much thought, just seemed like a place I wanted to leave fairly soon and then I looked at the image, nobody having a good time, lost in their technology, and thanks to Pepin we now know it is from the lobby of the Okura Hotel in Tokoyo; the girl to the right looks foreign, but naomi googled it and said it was maybe Microsoft headquarters or a big college campus, sooo, just remember that next time she offers up research...

Anyway, seph has cleared the cork cause of politics, but to me, the entrance image shouldn't be political, although my Mother did lose a brother on Iwo Jima; be that as it may, I think most of the members of SOI are from the States, and I cherish our Canadian, Australian, and British participants, but to me, routing everyone through Tokoyo is a long WAY around, plus, think of the FUN to be had, choosing a new image, hopefully AMERICAN, but I would not rule out some nice landscape or bar downunder or up north,

Also, Walmart has greeters, why not SOI?! some duly elected personas renowed for their graciousness and manners!

If he thought that what he said hurt someone’s pride, he wouldn’t have said it. Now read back and see who brought the racism card up first. Go ahead: I beg you.

But you won’t. Why, you ask?

Grinning, taking a breath... OK, this is getting stupid. I shouldn't have to explain this stuff, but here I go.

A few of the more, ah, let's call them - 'one-dimensional' people here don't "get" Panurge or his sense of humor.

INSIGHTFUL "Behind the curtain" GLIMPSE INTO THE RT WORLD OF DR. PAN = He graduated HS and was in college by age 16. WARNING LABEL: If they'd like to TEST him in an honest debate? When he's not goofing off and he's actually annoyed or angry? I'd highly discourage them. Right now, he's just amused and playing around.

And in regard to that image? Trust me, he's not invested. Laughing

He was amusing himself and goofing off out of boredom. Unfortunately, the usual 'triggered' PC suspects jumped in and set the gas pump on fire.

I haven't weighed in on it, in spite of the assumptions and declarations of the 'perpetually triggered', though I stated previously that I find that whole room less than inviting. But who cares? Shrug

IN SHORT: I don't give a rat's patootie about it either.

What's going on here? Once "they" really get going, it's sometimes fun to poke the bear a little.

      Laughing

That picture has been up for many years. Lucid desire I believe designed that room. I believe seph had a competition on who would be the designer and to make samples of what the welcome room would look like.

If one didn’t want the picture of what lucid came up with, then one should have put a sample of a room and submit it to seph.

Why, after so many years, are two complaining now?

Because two love drama and creating it!

Congratulations! You two have succeeded to bully yourselves into drama!

In re that picture, one side of me says it does what would be the most intended thing well. Who would want to spend much time in such a bland space? I never have and never will.
Then there is the other side of the coin. If that is the first impression a person will take when looking in what motivates them to look further? The user interface is janky by modern standards and does nothing to explain or direct people past there. I have had a website supposedly with data I am curious about open for a few days, but just like that room nothing directs or invites me to look beyond that first page.
Maybe if you could mouseover, a pretty common option for most UI and get a hint of what would happen if you clicked Hot it might help. Right now it is a total crap shoot until you hit Hot and then you have a little explanation of the rooms that pop up.

SarahJj{LA} : I did say I disliked it even more after learning it was from Japan because of an uncle I didn't get to meet, Mom has told me about him, he carried the BAR, strong fellow, twenty-two years old when he died, buried over behind the homeplace, but surely you know I was joking about hating Japanese this long after the war, sooo, I couldn't compromise principles by driving a Toyoto, heck; I've got a Sony camera.

I fear you harm the liberal brand by being so vehement with yours.

Seems kinda personal when you suggest big boy pants, while explaining the capriciousness of the world.

I wish you wouldn't get soooo upset over the image; I can't recall making a hate speech rant, only observing that the place of origin of the image negatively affected my already "low esteem" for it.

I think that after practice and revision, Starr and I may become first rate greeters!!!

It's cute how you two are trying to hijack this to make it something other that the hate speech rant you started it as.
I'm sure you wish you'd made it in mis-titled z2free where Starr could have instantly banned anyone who disagreed with it, as she is known to do.

And if Starr thinks you have a right to hate an entire country for the killing of an Uncle you probably never knew, I wonder how large a group I get to hate for the crimes committed against my people.

Owning a Toyota only shows your principles got compromised for money and/or convenience.

      As for the image:
You started by saying that you "never given it much thought" until you recently found out it was "the lobby image of the Okura hotel TOKOYO!" and became triggered.
I suggest you put on your big boy pants and either:
      a) get over it
      b) stop looking at the image, like you used to

Because the world does not owe you a thing and should not have to change because you can't be a man about it.

You and Starr are the last two people who should be "greeters" here.

That's BULLSHIT about Kentucky bourbon being better than Jack Daniels, pure bullshit, and mean of you to bring it up; I'm off the bottle but defending it has made me crave it again.

Dang, that is a delicate way to put it, "having low esteem" for something, and can't comment on Indiana driving, never been there, flew over it once, seemed kinda flat.

I have low esteem for the image entrance.

SarahJj{LA} I think the image should not be from a hotel lobby in Tokoyo because it is morbund, ennui inducing, AND because there are better images from other parts of the world that have more users than Japan. I do not hate all things Japanese, drive a Toyota Tundra, love it, but I would rather hang out in a Bar from Australia or maybe a nightclub in Ontario than watch someone clear their cache while sitting in a bowling chair.

Returning to the subject of " the lobby image of the Okura hotel TOKOYO! "

So you think the image should NOT be of a place in Tokoyo because you are a bigot in your hate of all things Japanese. Is that correct? Also, only an image from a location in the gold ol' USA, or maybe (if you HAD to compromise) from Canada would be acceptable.

      Is that right?

It seems we are getting pretty far afield concerning the lobby image of the Okura hotel TOKOYO!
