~ - Subject: Entrance ImageI've lingered a few times at the entrance, never given it much thought, just seemed like a place I wanted to leave fairly soon and then I looked at the image, nobody having a good time, lost in their technology, and thanks to Pepin we now know it is from the lobby of the Okura Hotel in Tokoyo; the girl to the right looks foreign, but naomi googled it and said it was maybe Microsoft headquarters or a big college campus, sooo, just remember that next time she offers up research...Anyway, seph has cleared the cork cause of politics, but to me, the entrance image shouldn't be political, although my Mother did lose a brother on Iwo Jima; be that as it may, I think most of the members of SOI are from the States, and I cherish our Canadian, Australian, and British participants, but to me, routing everyone through Tokoyo is a long WAY around, plus, think of the FUN to be had, choosing a new image, hopefully AMERICAN, but I would not rule out some nice landscape or bar downunder or up north,
Also, Walmart has greeters, why not SOI?! some duly elected personas renowed for their graciousness and manners!

That picture has been up for many years. Lucid desire I believe designed that room. I believe seph had a competition on who would be the designer and to make samples of what the welcome room would look like.If one didn’t want the picture of what lucid came up with, then one should have put a sample of a room and submit it to seph.

In re that picture, one side of me says it does what would be the most intended thing well. Who would want to spend much time in such a bland space? I never have and never will.
Then there is the other side of the coin. If that is the first impression a person will take when looking in what motivates them to look further? The user interface is janky by modern standards and does nothing to explain or direct people past there. I have had a website supposedly with data I am curious about open for a few days, but just like that room nothing directs or invites me to look beyond that first page.
Maybe if you could mouseover, a pretty common option for most UI and get a hint of what would happen if you clicked Hot it might help. Right now it is a total crap shoot until you hit Hot and then you have a little explanation of the rooms that pop up.

SarahJj{LA} I think the image should not be from a hotel lobby in Tokoyo because it is morbund, ennui inducing, AND because there are better images from other parts of the world that have more users than Japan. I do not hate all things Japanese, drive a Toyota Tundra, love it, but I would rather hang out in a Bar from Australia or maybe a nightclub in Ontario than watch someone clear their cache while sitting in a bowling chair.
