A sense of determination filled Vanessa as she surveyed the kitchen, taking note of the dishes that needed washing and the floors that needed sweeping. These were tasks she had performed countless times before, but today, they carried a weight of uncertainty.

As she ate, Vanessa's thoughts turned to the tasks that awaited her once she finished her meal. She knew that Ace was already out and about, tending to the chores on the homestead or perhaps lending a handover at the Crowley place. His absence left her alone to tackle the morning's work.
