Because if he had, he definitely would have weirded out on the ick factor. Luckily he was too distracted then. And maybe just plan on erasing everything, just to be safe.

"This is true. I'm still impressed you were able to hide it so completely back in the day."

He knew everyone thought things were a little 'strange', and that was why he searched you out when the time came. But he had no idea just how strange your normal was, even then. You're right, though, how many things would have been different if this wasn't normal for you. And it would be nice if life was always just the good parts, but that's just never the case. You have to take the bad parts to make the good parts worth it.

Of course you love them, that was never a thought that crossed his mind otherwise. Too bad none of the things they need to fix in themselves goes quickly. He bets you'd like your fixing your brain boxes to be fast just like he wishes his knee would heal fast too.

"Oh, I know for a fact it wasn't always me that pissed her off. I bet I could have pinpointed on more than one occasion what it was that set her off."

Because she didn't exactly hide it and the crowd they were with didn't make things easy for her in any way. She refused to put on the mask that he wore so well. And he admired her immensely for it, even if it manifested as jealousy and anger back in the day.

As for priorities, don't remind him, because it's definitely a priority for him right now he can't pursue. Damn silver bullets.

He knows. And he will. It's probably going to take some time though. Seeing JJ's smile and just how happy and -good- he actually is is already doing worlds to help, he promises. The rest is just going to take some time. It's only been one day of consciousness on his part, after all.

The tears that do escape when JJ is focused on you signing his cast are good ones, he promises. Relief, mainly. Not that he didn't believe you when you said JJ was good, but seeing it for himself was sorely needed.

He watches as JJ works on sounding out those words with your help, that smile lingering on his face. The teacher in him is very proud of both you and JJ (shush, you have no idea how many parents don't do stuff with their kids education that makes this moment really cool to him).

Is there an instinctual wince in anticipation of the cast smacking into your head that doesn't come? Yes, yes there is, but can you blame him? And hey, he sees and hears nothing for you, so long as you do the same for him. When you defer to him regarding the nap, JJ turns and looks at him and repeats the question as if he didn't just hear it.

'Can I take a nap wiff you, Unca Keff?'

He chuckles and nods.

"I think a nap sounds perfect to me."

'Yay! Bye, Dada!'

There's a chuckle from him before JJ will scramble out of your lap and back over to him, and he's still impressed he's able keep any winces of pain to a minimum as he makes sure JJ gets settled on his good side. He'll give you a smile over your son's head.

"Come and get us when it's time to eat, I know I'll be starving."

'Me too!'

There's one more chuckle, just a happy sound, and after you help them both get settled (shush about helping him) and head out, he'll extend his arm and let JJ come curl up against him before he'll let out one deep exhale of relief and lets sleep claim them both.
