Of course his parents would be nicer about him when he's not there. Of course. It seems unlikely he'll hear about it, though.

You see more clearly than he does, so often. So you see the clear intention, where he doesn't. That much you may be able to read in his body language.

It doesn't change that in the moment of figuring it out, he doesn't pull away, though. That's all on him, regardless of who kissed who, of the fact you could have stopped it.

It really was just a moment. The moment he kissed Holly Blanc back, the moment before he pulled away. But the moment is all that matters, isn't it? Especially when you burst out of the door at precisely at that moment.

It's not so much pulling away as it is recoiling, tether snapped - not just the one Holly had been providing, but to you. It leaves him reeling, stunned, as his conscious mind snaps back into place rooted firmly, horribly in the now.

And it absolutely is horrible. He's horrified. Not because you caught them, but because of his own actions. All his worst fears and thoughts about himself crystalizing into certainty.

Not a hero, nor royalty being rescued by his resplendent knight - he's the villain. The cad. Something inside him breaks.

Unlike Holly Blanc, he does not flush, he goes pale. It barely even registers that she's separated herself from him, as much as he has her.

"I..." what can he even say? He agrees with you. "I can't believe it, either... I'm so sorry. I know sorry isn't enough. I know sorry won't make it right."

He's not crying, he's not curling in on himself, he's too stunned by himself for that.

Holly Blanc is at a complete loss for words, and so is he. How do you defend the undefendable?

Can he call himself an idiot now?
