the light goes out as suddenly as it went on.
After a few moments she slowly rises to peek out,
feeling a bit silly since it was dark in her kitchen
and the light was outside. But still, she takes her
time before looking out. Its dark and nothing stirs
straining her eyes to see, she peers harder trying
to see in the dark. Nothing.
About to turn away, she hears it again and its a sound
she knows! Dropping the poker she flies to the back door
turning the lock and swinging it wide!

WALTER!

she sees the soft gray blur and sweeps him up,
oh my god oh my GOD! His coat is matted and
he smells but she hugs him, crooning,
cradling him to her
Walter...oh my baby...
he doesn't struggle like he'd always
done when she would pick him up, but lay passive, exhausted.
Holding him close she takes him inside tears blurring
her vision and puts her face to him.
The fear the isolation of the last weeks taking over.
Then a new sound...one she hadn't heard in two months.

He starts to purr
